Ward 1 Elyria City Councilman
Since being elected YOUR Elyria Ward 1 City Councilman, my family and I have listened to YOU, the resident, on paving the path forward. Whether obtaining grants for police and school safety, securing funding for infrastructure, or increasing traffic enforcement -- we've been your advocates at City Hall! We'll continue partnering with the Mayor and Council to deliver sound solutions to the challenges facing our neighborhood, including bringing businesses back to Elyria. We'd be honored to earn your vote for re-election November 7.
Elyria's future is bright! Together, we'll keep "getting it done in Ward 1!"
From the street to the sidewalk, Elyria must promote a safer image. Kids should feel secure leaving their bikes in the yard. At the urging of Ward 1 residents, our City was awarded the "Safe Routes to School" grant from the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), which will allocate funds for sidewalk renovations in the vicinity of our school in Eastern Heights. We also installed solar-powered LED STOP Signs at problem intersections. After multiple conversations and ride-alongs, the Elyria Police Department has stepped up presence in our Ward. The job is not done yet, however -- we must continue engaging with the City Engineer and Safety Services on additional safety measures to take a bite out of crime in our neighborhood, securing our Ward for the growth of families, and our aging community.
Elyria's job market needs some TLC: from restaurants to commercial real-estate. Our city has so much potential, and there is too much missed opportunity. The Bendix Building, now vacated, could be used for smaller commercial businesses, which could eventually seed out to the rest of the city, making it a breeding ground for new growth. Thanks to the urging of residents, the Friendly's building has come under new ownership, and our favorite local bakery is about to re-open. Furthermore, as City Councilman, I advocated for Lorain County to repurpose the Midway Mall location, which is now being prospected by investors. When the Mall is repurposed, it will be a boost for local restaurants as well as new businesses, reviving an anchor for Elyria's economy.
I believe in the power of everyday voices. From hosting community chats at East Park to sparking up conversations during my walks, I understand and act on our shared concerns. Ensuring everyone feels a personal tie to their city's future, I champion youth involvement. I also engage with local entrepreneurs to support and help them expand in Elyria. Re-electing me will ensure the people remain close to city government. Together, we're not just talking about the future—we're building it. With me at the helm, Ward 1 knows when they talk to Lipian - he listens.
But listening is just the beginning. When action is needed, I roll up my sleeves, to ensure our collective voices result in progress. Together, under my leadership, we're not merely envisioning the future—we're crafting it.
